Photo: Ben Burnett (www.downdays.eu)

Finally!! After skiing harder than I have ever done in any season, it finally pays off!!
1st place after a long semi-final and final. Oscar Scherlin in 2nd, and James Woods in 3rd.

In the final we had to do 5 tricks, where 4 of them counted. One of the tricks had to be a steeze trick up to 540. I did a long sw cork 540 japan, funky 7, funky 9 , switch 900 mute, and finally a long sw 1080 in the bottom.

Polish Freeskiing Open day1

Me and mr Oscar hiking up to do the second run.

Today it was snowing like nothing I have ever seen. again... and the qualifyers went on with 45 riders on the startlist. Big Air was the obsitcle to get through with good grabs, nice roations and taking the landings to the bottom (Since the jump was a small 15 m step-down). Many of the riders did everything they could to spin much, but few of them did land. Me and Oscar Scherling decided to take it down a few nothces.

We did 7's and 9's with grab and jumping far down the landing, instead of hucking a 1080 off the jump and land on the knuckle without a grab.

Me doing a funky 7 during the qualifiers.

Both me and Oscar did move on to the Semi Finals as far as we know. Check out my two runs from the pre-lims, filmed by Crill (Jon's old filmer). Enjoy!

Lillehammer training day 1

Sooo. I am back in Lillehammer again. Had a long drive back there. As you can see I use a lot of skis, because I ski a lot.

Today was day 1 in Hafjell. The park has got an overhauling after the last few weeks snowfall. The railsetup reminds me about xgames. Cause all the rails and boxes are blue, and the kickers are square and well-shaped like in a video-game. The fog came in just after noon and the jumps were impossible to hit. We also got rain freezing on our goggles, which made it impossible to see!

I skipped the top of the park every run to just hit the rails in the bottom. I probably got like 20-30 railruns after lunch, and I am quite saticfied.

Tomorrow is the last day with training before Polish Freeskiing Open in Zakopane (Big Air and railjam) So I better get some good tricks done before that!

I am currently working on my videoblog for this last week or two, and it will come online as soon as possible. I am waiting for a pc-card for editing video yet, so I can capture my footage. But it will be there very soon, and I think it will be allright.

See you around, steffen.

Railday!!

Today me and a friend (Lars) went to Vassfjellet just by Trondheim in Norway to hit the park. The park itself were hopeless. Flat take-offs on the jumps, and the rails did not have any kickers. But I enjoyed the flatbox they had there, and had probably 40-50 hikes on it.

When I got back home I sessioned an hour on the flatrail I got in my own backyard. So I am pretty damn tired right now.

I am working on a videoblog which will be posted here and on Downdays.EU the upcoming week! It will be a blog section on Downdays with all the videos from the US trip, and following videoposts. There will also be other well known faces in there, with their own videoblog.

Regular blog-posts will still be on www.steffenhamre.com, but as mentioned; the videos will be put to downdays and linked from here.

Watch out for videoblog this week, in a few days! Also, I am going to Poland this thursday for Polish Freeskiing Open. Read all about it here and on Downdays. It will be videoblog from there with interviews and action!!

A lot to come in the future, stay tuned! Save www.steffenhamre.com as your homepage or favourite in your web-browser!

AFO 2009 photos and trip back home..

So! Sorry for the lack of pictures from the competition down in Austrian. Obviously my internet line was terrible, and photos was impossible to upload. But, since I am such I nice guy, and since some photographers was so nice to give me some shots to upload online, I'm gonna go ahead and do that!

My semifinal runs wasn't optimal! That's one thing! And all the waiting and nervousness didn't make it any better either! My first one was a fuck-up on the down rail (supposed to be a k-fed which I had done ALL week every time!!), and then a frontside 450 out of the box (not that good), and then a semi-good left 900 mute to switch right 900 mute/stiffy.

My 2nd. run was kind of better, but still not as I wanted it to be. Frontside switch-up on the down rail ( Still I wanted to do a k-fed, but fucked up) So I had to revert and do a blind 630 out off the box. Then a slightly better left 900 mute grab to switch right 900 mute with a little tweak. The judges placed me FAR down on the result-list. Which is strange, cause my run was technical as far as I know. there was several skiers placing MUCH better that me with NO unatural spins and reverts.

But I am not going to brag about my sucky result in the AFO 2009. Sick skiing and good feeling was words to describe this event well. This week I am going to work on my unatural and competition runs, and make a videoblog to put up! saaay, watch out! Check out all the action from the contest on Downdays!

I actually got a smooth run filmed by heli in the competition, and maybe you'll see it in some videos from the comp.

Switch right 900 on the last large kicker. Getting the mutegrab.

Yesterday, Saturday was a long day for me. 14 hours from the second I hopped on the train in Mayrhofen, Austria, till I got in bed in Lillehammer, Norway. at 00.30 AM.

Now I need to do some serious sponsorship work the next few days, cause travelling costs a lot of money, and not winning doesn't really help. Hehe. Since I'm paying me trips myself, I really need a sponsor to help me out so I can compete in the rest of the competitions I want to do;

Polish Freeskiing Open, Poland
CHamps Open, Switzerland
Nippon Freeskiing Open, Japan
European Freeskiing Open, Switzerland

and a few more...

So I got tons with work to do, so see you in a flash.. Before you even know! And watch out for a video-post!

Steffen, peace

Austrian Freeski Open at www.Skier.no

Check out my travel diaries to the Norwegian skier site, www.skier.no !!

There is also a picture of the last money-booter. So that you actually can see that it IS a lot of hangtime on it.

Today was training all day, and my legs are SO sore after banging as many practice runs as possible. I got my competition run like 7-8 times today, which I was very satisfied with. Hopefully I get to do them tomorrow as well. Now I need to rest up for the semi's and the final's tomorrow.

I got to shred a little rails outside the course today as well with Hampus Ohlin, which was superfun!! Stoked.

Also check out www.downdays.eu for more action from the comp (Videos) and skier.no for articles from the action down here!

See you!"

Going to Austrian Freeski Open

Sooooo. The comp season has started!

Monday morning, 3.AM I woke up to start my journey to Mayrhofen, Austria for the Austrian Freeski Open. It took some while to get there, a few stops, trains, cars, flights waiting.. But I got there, at 6.PM

Got a pretty nice Tyrolean Hotel in the City of Mayrhofen. Unfortunately I don't have a wireless connection there, so that's why the lack of updates lately. But hey, I got to update you now!

Tuesday was training all day, and I got my run a few times. I didn't get it as good as I wanted to, but I got all week to make it look better. The course is pretty good. It starts up with a 9m downrail, to a riders choice between a down-flat-down rail or a upward box (launch-box), to a 17 m roll over jump, to a 20 meter massive step-down jump with a LOT of hangtime.

I just want to get my run when it actually count, that would be the semi-final. I have done all these tricks back home in Norway and the US several times. It's just all about linking them together, holding the grab, and STOMP.

I watched the qualifiers today, and a lot of people were crashing, which is not PIIMP. But some of the riders were doing pretty good, nice and clean back-to-back tricks, good landings and nice rail-moves. Stoked to watch a comp for once, by that it means I don't have to be nervous to perform well myself.

Tomorrow is training again, and the semi-finals and finals are at Friday.

I will post pictures from the event here later on when I get some. Until that, have a look through the lens of my mobile-camera. YEAH!! Travel-shots are up ladies and gents! if I only got to upload some, the line here are sucky. check out www.downdays.eu or www.freeskier.net for pictures!

See you around!

Healing goes before comps!

I went to the Physio yesterday, and got to know that I have a "light" version of a jumpers knee, which is NOT pimp!! So I have to skip training yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Before traveling to Austria for Austrian Freeski Open on Monday morning. I've got a little balance/stabilizing move which will make me tolerate the pains the deep landings gives me, every day! So hopefully after some weeks I will know how to deal with the impact the landings give my knees.

So now I'm sitting inside, watching keystone edits, giant-slalom on tv, with my man T(SHR)ed Ligety on the start-list. It sucks, not beeing able to ski when I want to, but also it's kind of smart to chill the days before a big comp to get stoked on!

See you around with updates from Austria next week. Now I need to take some practice on my balanceing-pillow.

Santa came late !

Today I found out that Christmas wasn't finished, it actually came too late! Got my new Salomon SPK Pro Model boots from Salomon and two pairs of new skis. Want to know how the 2010 model of Salomon boot looks like? Wanna know how cool they actually are? Wanna know what to buy next fall? Have a sneak-peak underneath!!

When I opened the box, this was what I got. SOOO happy, like a kid on christmas eve. haha

Aren't they just awesome!? I like them a lot, and since my old ones were worn out, this was perfect. Also I got two pairs of Salomon Suspect skis, which is the best skis Salomon got, they are perfect for my use!

Season 2 of My name is earl is what I got to catch up with, and Andreas Håtveit's Season for the tousand and something time...

Happy new year - competition season is around the corner!

Christmas is over again, and the time between Christmas eve and New-years eve I spent skiing and hanging out with friends and family. A friend of mine took this picture on a gray and shitty day sometime in Christmas. A portrait and a 540 tailgrab. It's a cool shot, tailgrabs are so visible on photos. If you like it you should check out Mathias Vinje Photography for more skiing photos.

New years eve again, spent with good friends and my lovely girlfriend home in Hommelvik, Norway. What a great firework, haha. Not really.

Two days later, the snow came on a visit. It knocked on my door and asked me if I wanted some more. I just told them that I didn't mind a little dump just after Christmas. And so it was, It actually snowed for three or four days. Got almost 1m of snow. Shit! Look at my car, just overnight . Had to clean the car for snow EVERY single morning, and it slowed me down. Didn't actually do much the days after new years eve, other than chilling with my girlfriend at home, and eat wonderful dinner every night. I actually got to sweat a few miles on cross-country skis two days. It keeps my knees from getting sore after skiing every day. So every now and then I need to do something else, different kind of training than skiing I guess. It is really important to train a lot to stay away from injuries, and after last years crash in Trysil, I really want to be in as good shape as possible, if I'm unlucky and crash.
If there is one thing I have learned, it's that nothing comes along by itselves. Hard work and currage it what's needed in a sport like freeskiing.

Another moneyshot from my window at home. Look how much snow. I guess all you americans has to be at alltitudes like 11 000 ft to see this heavy snowfall overnight. This is bearly 900 ft. Beat that, haha.

The 3. of January me and Ida headed back home to her house in Lillehammer. It's the time of year that competitions is around the corner, and everything you have worked on so far, has to get perfect. New tricks has to be learned, and old tricks has to be re-done. Slopestyle, rail comps, big air comps and filming is just some of the things I am planning to do this season, and I really want to do everything well. I've got the time that's needed, since all I ever do is to ski. I just need motivating and guts to do what I have to do. On the picture you see the handsome looking guy named Jens Gunnhildsrud. (Or is it whitout the H-letter?) Shoot me if I'm wrong. You gotta look up for this guy, he is been KILLING it lately. He is on the Norwegian Salomon team with me, and he is really fun to ski with. Hafjell is the resort I am currently training in, and the park is AWESOME! Thank you Per Danielson, Magne and all the guys working their ass off for the skiers and boarders to be happy.

The second jump in a line with three jumps. It is really a large one this year. I've allready seen switch 12's by pk and others, and I've overrotated several sw 1080's myself. It really kicks ass if you have the speed that's needed to get airborne. A lot of guys are here training for the season. Ole Mustad, Kim boberg, myself, Pk left yesterday for US, Arild Tveit are here (skiing every day with me, thank you).. and yeah, a lot of good guys.

Me and Ida visited one of her friends in Lillehammer, she has just got herself a Mops (dog), and it's so cute, and small!!

Tomorrow is training day as every other day. So much fun skiing down here. It's sunny and REALLY cold. Sunday was -20 degrees celsius. I've just got an invitation for Austria Freeskiing open next week, and I am thrilled to be there to compete again. I'm looking really foreward to compete real slopestyle this early at season, with pro skiers and friends. Hopefully I do well, but I gotta ski a little more to get my tricks nice and done.

It's a lot of text and so little entertaining, but this is actually my everyday of skiing, at that's how it is. Hopefully I be able to put up a small edit here in a few days. Stay tuned!
